Summer is the season that your hair can do its thing and really shine. Relaxed, beachy waves are in, lighter tones and highlights are the bomb and with busy summer plans, sometimes things like hair masks go out of the window!

Everything is fixable though, and if you’ve had a summer of chlorine, pineapple-hair buns and avoiding your hair serum, now’s the time to give your locks some love. Here are some little tips from us to get your hair back to its former glory.

Get into a routine

The first thing to do is establish a routine for your hair. When things begin to calm down after busy plans, it’s easier to get into a good system of washing, moisturising and maintenance. If you’re busier in the week, set aside a Sunday evening for hair care, for example.

Have a trim

The easiest way to make your hair look much healthier is to go to your hairdresser for a haircut. You don’t have to get a dramatic cut (unless you want to!), but even just an inch will get rid of split and dead ends to make your hair look thicker and shinier.

Don’t overwash

When you’ve got dull, lank hair, you may think it’s best to up the washing to give it some ‘life’. However, this could be having an adverse effect, especially if you’re washing everyday. Depending on your hair type, it’s much better to leave a day or two between washes – for some, the longer the better! Try Kerastase Discipline Shampoo for a gentle, thorough wash without parabens and sulfates which can create build-up.

Go nuts for coconuts

Coconuts are lovely. To eat, to cook with and to put in your hair! Coconut oil is a fantastically moisturising product, and you can incorporate it into your hair routine with a daily serum like OGX Coconut Milk and Oil to smooth ends and lock in moisture. Plus, you’ll smell lovely!

Keep moisture in

Keep hold of your newly smooth and moisturised locks with a weekly hair mask. Some hair masks can be very costly, but many great ones are available for those on a budget – so it really depends on how much you want to spend! We love Ultimate Blend Hair Food from Garnier which is a steal at £3.29 – it will nourish and condition dry hair.
